Mission
The Archive and Documentation Centre (ACD) of the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP-IN) has the mission of managing all documents produced and received by this organisation (Head Office), regardless of their format or data contents.
Concerning the Archive documents, the ACD implements procedures in order to rationalise and make efficient the constitution, evaluation, purchasing, organisation, preservation, disclosure and communication of the CGTP-IN Archive documents, broadening its area of intervention to the entire life cycle of documents.
In relation to bibliographic documents, the ADC has the task of preserving, organising and disclosing all documental contents that may be used as documental and technical aid.
All this work has the purpose of communicating and making available all the CGTP-IN bibliographic and documental archives, duly organised and preserved, to all trade unions, office bearers, shop stewards, union staff and researchers.
Vision
The ADC is supposed to create the conditions – after having consolidated the documental management at the CGTP-IN Head Office – to develop a broader work for the entire trade union movement, by collecting, organising, valuing and making available to trade union cadres and to the wider public, its archive contents, which have an historical value and are dispersed across the CGTP-IN member unions.
Simultaneously and in a gradual way, the ADC intends to do work on the standardization of archive procedures for the whole of the trade union movement, by defining measures that are adequate to the reality of trade union archives and by developing efforts for its widespread application. The ADC will also implement measures for a more accurate and rational management of its bibliographic assets. With this action, the ADC hopes to set the conditions for encouraging research on the labour world and on trade union and social affairs.
